CURRICULUM FOR EXCELLENCE

ENGLISH
Our English department strives to instil both knowledge and enthusiasm for words in our pupils. Through a range of texts, topics and tasks, pupils are given the very best guidance through this rewarding course of study.

While English is fundamental to effective communication, it is also a field of study which enriches the lives of those who embrace it. Our English department has a record of delivering excellent results but, more than this, it instils an enthusiasm for novels, poetry, drama and non-fiction.

All of our English staff use the subject to help pupils develop empathy and understanding of the world in which they live, giving them the confidence and knowledge to express their feelings and ideas.

HEALTH IMROVEMENT FACULTY
Our Physical Education and Home Economics departments provide both a solid grounding for pupils, as well a platform for those to specialise in these areas of study. Our school believes firmly in mens sana in corpore sano and our Health Improvement faculty ensures that all pupils understand the importance of taking health matters seriously, in school and out.

Our football, netball, hockey and other teams compete with other schools, locally, regionally and nationally, giving Monifieth High pupils the competitive experiences which enrich their learning.

SOCIAL SUBJECTS FACULTY
History, Geography, Modern Studies and R.M.P.S. give our pupils a broad and thorough understanding of the myriad factors which make up the world in which they live.
An understanding of the world in which we live is the cornerstone of a well-rounded education. This is fostered in History, Geography, Modern Studies and R.M.P.S. more than anywhere else in the school.
Monifieth High's Social Subjects faculty has a proven track-record of academic achievement, whilst always giving pupils the experiences that allow them to see fully why the world is as it is.

MODERN FOREIGN
LANGUAGES DEPT.
In an interconnected world, the importance of foreign languages has never been more apparent. Our M.F.L. department gives pupils the tools they need to understand, apply and love non-English languages.
Never before have foreign languages been so important; in the last twenty years the internet has shrunk our world, bringing countless new opportunities and applications for non-English language. Our pupils receive experienced instruction and guidance in French and Spanish, arming pupils with the confidence to express themselves in another language, whether in examination, or when on holiday.

BUSINESS,COMPUTING & TECHNOLOGIES (BCT) FACULTY
Our Technologies department teaches pupils, in a practical, hands-on way, the key life skills of problem-solving and forward-thinking. Whether it be on the page, or in physical objects, pupils at Monifieth High are equipped to look at design problems aesthetically, practically, environmentally, and with an understanding of related industrial and social issues.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS FACULTY
Acting, Painting, Sketching, Singing, Playing, Dancing... Monifieth High Pupils are provided with the time and space to develop their expressive personalities, whether that be for academic, professional or simply leisure purposes.
“The inspiration and power of the expressive arts play a vital role in enabling our young people to enhance their creative talent and develop their artistic skills.”
Curriculum for Excellence Expressive Arts

Our young people learn about both their musical and artistic heritage and the wider impact of musical and artistic culture around the world. We believe that to learn we must learn together, experiencing the subject in its professional context through visits to musical and arts events, and by inviting professionals into the department whenever possible to teach and inspire our young people.
