We have received the following information from the Medic Insight Team at Dundee University:
Dear all,
Due to the unprecedented situation regarding Covid-19, Medic Insight Dundee have been advised to cancel our S5 weeks in June. This is following advice from both the Medical School and NHS Tayside.
We understand that due to the cancellation of our S5 weeks and the pressure Covid-19 is currently placing on health services, it may be challenging for pupils to achieve any experience in a hospital setting before applying to medical school in October. Please note that although we have not received an official statement from university admissions, we have no doubt that universities will consider these exceptional circumstances and appreciate that pupils may have not been able to obtain this experience.
We are hoping to be able to run a 1-day event after the summer which would allow pupils to participate in the workshops that would have run during the S5 weeks. These include: medical ethics, the UCAT, and the medical school interview. We are also exploring the possibility of getting some of these tutorials online (particularly the UCAT tutorial as we understand that some pupils may be planning to sit the test over the summer).
Unfortunately at this stage it is impossible for us to have an exact date in mind for this 1-day event, but we hope to be able to accommodate everyone who has applied to the S5 programme this year. We will be in touch again later in the year with more information.
