REPORTING By the end of P7 most pupils will have completed the Curriculum for Excellence Level 2 Experiences and Outcomes. During S1-S3 most will be working on the Level 3 Experiences and Outcomes with many moving on to Level 4 in S2-S3. Pupil’s will move through the Experiences and Outcomes at their own pace. From 25/26 session, all Angus schools are now using the BGE achievement within a level codes and descriptors as shown in the table above. More information on the levels and descriptors can be found in the document below. ASSESSMENT There are four main ways in which pupils will be assessed during the Junior Phase: ➢ WRITE – where a pupil may have some written evidence e.g. end of unit assessment ➢ MAKE – where a pupil may have created a model or a poster ➢ SAY – where a pupil may have presented to the class or classmates ➢ DO – where pupils may act out a scenario or conduct a class vote Assessment is crucial to our tracking progress, planning next steps in learning, reporting and involving parents and learners in learning. Evidence of progress can be gathered by learners themselves, and by fellow pupils, parents, teachers and other professionals. A number of approaches are employed including (but not limited to) the following Self-assessment – learners are encouraged and supported to look at and revisit their own work, to develop a better understanding of what they have learned, and what they need to work on Peer assessment – learners are encouraged and supported to work together to help others assess what is good about their work and what needs to be worked on Personal learning planning – children, teachers and parents work together to develop planning for next steps in learning. Your child’s progress is not only based on ‘tests’ but on the learning that takes place within the classroom and in different settings both within and out with the classroom. Evidence of children and young people’s progress and achievements will come from day-to-day learning and through the things they may write, say, make or do. For example, evidence may emerge as a result of children and young people taking part in a presentation, discussion, performance, or practical investigation. From 25/26 session, all Angus schools are now using the BGE achievement within a level codes and descriptors as shown in the table above. More information on the levels and descriptors can be found in the document below.

COURSE CHOICE Introduction to Course Choice Session 2025 - 2026 Welcome to the Course Choice section of our website. Within this area you will find information relating to personalisation and choice within the S3-S6 curriculum. The choices made in the senior phase can have a huge impact on the destinations for pupils after their school career. As such, making an informed and sensible selection is vital. Below, you will find a number of documents to help you and your child make the right choice. S1 & S2 33 Period Week s2 into S3 Course Choice Columns This document shows the subjects in each of the S3 course choice columns. One subject should be chosen from each column. In S3, our young people will continue to receive a broad general education while also beginning to cover work for SCQF level 4 and 5 qualifications. Pupils will begin studying towards qualifications in English, Maths, and six additional subjects selected from the course choice form. Pupils will also participate in Social Education, Personal Support, Religious and Moral Education, and PE (core PE or School of Sport in rugby, netball, or football). Scottish Studies will be taught as part of the English, History, Geography, and RE courses. The diagram below shows the number of periods allocated to each subject in S3 and S4. During the course choice process in February 2025, S3 pupils will review their progress in certificate level courses and continue in to S4 with English, Maths and 4 out of the 6 additional subjects chosen in S3. They will continue with Social Education, Personal Support, Religious and Moral Education and PE. Where subject choices allow, pupils will continue with Scottish Studies with the aim of achieving a pass at SCQF level 5. All subjects available, along with course descriptors and short video presentations describing courses can be viewed by clicking directly on the links below. Course Choice Video Presentations s3 into S4 Course Choice Columns Pupils currently in S3 have already begun studying towards 9 National 4/5 courses (including Scottish Studies). CURRICULUM FOR EXCELLENCE MATHS Instruction in Mathematics at Monifieth High School is characterised by the department's enthusiasm, and the depth of its scope. Pupils learn that exam success exists alongside enthusiasm for the subject. View More Pupil Downloads S1 S2 N4 Apps N5 Apps N5 Higher ENGLISH Our English department strives to instil both knowledge and enthusiasm for words in our pupils. Through a range of texts, topics and tasks, pupils are given the very best guidance through this rewarding course of study. While English is fundamental to effective communication, it is also a field of study which enriches the lives of those who embrace it. Our English department has a record of delivering excellent results but, more than this, it instils an enthusiasm for novels, poetry, drama and non-fiction. All of our English staff use the subject to help pupils develop empathy and understanding of the world in which they live, giving them the confidence and knowledge to express their feelings and ideas. Our school believes firmly in mens sana in corpore sano and our Health Improvement faculty ensures that all pupils understand the importance of taking health matters seriously, in school and out. Our football, netball, hockey and other teams compete with other schools, locally, regionally and nationally, giving Monifieth High pupils the competitive experiences which enrich their learning. View More Pupil Downloads SOCIAL SUBJECTS FACULTY History, Geography, Modern Studies and R.M.P.S. give our pupils a broad and thorough understanding of the myriad factors which make up the world in which they live. An understanding of the world in which we live is the cornerstone of a well-rounded education. This is fostered in History, Geography, Modern Studies and R.M.P.S. more than anywhere else in the school. Monifieth High's Social Subjects faculty has a proven track-record of academic achievement, whilst always giving pupils the experiences that allow them to see fully why the world is as it is. View More Pupil Downloads MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES DEPT. In an interconnected world, the importance of foreign languages has never been more apparent. Our M.F.L. department gives pupils the tools they need to understand, apply and love non-English languages. Never before have foreign languages been so important; in the last twenty years the internet has shrunk our world, bringing countless new opportunities and applications for non-English language. Our pupils receive experienced instruction and guidance in French and Spanish, arming pupils with the confidence to express themselves in another language, whether in examination, or when on holiday.
