ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR LEARNING All children and young people have the right to get the support they need to reach their full learning potential. In Scotland, we have an inclusive educational system which focuses on overcoming barriers to learning and Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC). Some children and young people need additional support to benefit fully from their education. Pupil Care and Support Team The PCS team have an open door policy and are located at a busy intersection of the school. We are housed in our own corridor with a Social Education room and various side rooms which provide areas to meet with pupils. There are three houses (Panmure, Dalhousie and Balmossie) and each house has 2 PCS teachers who are linked to a Depute Head Teacher. Various partners also work within this corridor including the careers adviser, school nurse service, educational psychology and other partners. Pupils are encouraged to self-refer when they are in need of support but robust monitoring and tracking processes also mean PCS staff may identify potential areas of concern and may discuss possible supports with your child or contact home to discuss these with you. This term we are looking at improving our communication with young people and parents. We are promoting different ways for your child to contact their guidance teacher. We have three main ways for young people to contact their guidance teacher. Pupils Go to the guidance base- a timetable is there if no guidance teacher is available. QR codes - which are situated around the school. Pupil completes a form and it will generate an email to arrange a meeting. Use mobile phone number for their guidance teacher and text. This will be shared through Social Education. Only during school hours. Parents In the first instance, if it is a general enquiry, please contact your child's guidance teacher via email. Health & Wellbeing Monifieth High School works in partnership with Connected Tayside School Nursing Service Every school in Tayside is allocated a school nurse team. For Monifieth High your team consists of Carron Forbes Emma Bullock Nicola Eaton We are based at Abbey Health Centre in Arbroath and can be contacted on 01241 430303. We are a referral only service and encourage discussion with your child’s PCS/Guidance teacher prior to contacting our service, however, there is also an option for young people to self refer to our service via a QR code on the school nurse posters which are displayed throughout the school. We are also happy to discuss any concerns over the telephone prior to a referral being made. We provide support under the following ten pathways; Mental Health and Wellbeing Young Carer Substance Misuse Sexual Health Child Protection Care Experienced Children Domestic Abuse Youth Justice Transitions Homelessness Mental health and wellbeing is probably our most used pathway and we frequently provide one to one support to young people for low level mental health concerns including but not limited to anxiety, low mood, anger and self harm. MONIFIETH HIGH SCHOOL FUNDRAISING On the evening of Saturday 29th March, we have a race night in the Crown Inn in Monifieth as part of a fundraiser for our Borneo trip in June. This promises to be a lively night with lots of chances to win a variety of rewards and prizes. Pupils can buy tickets for any interested parents at £3 a head from either Miss Hogan or Ms Quinn. There are still opportunities to sponsor races and horses and anyone interested can contact the school reception for further details. On the day Arriving for your exam Make sure you know when and where your exam is taking place Give yourself plenty of time to get there Have your SCN with you Be outside the exam room 10 minutes before the exam starts If you're late, the teacher in charge will tell you if you can sit the exam.
